1. Delete the default post and pages

First, go to the Post > All Posts and delete the default Hello World post.

The default Post has been sent to the trash. But, to delete the default post permanently, you have to go to the Trash and then click on the Delete Permanently.

Now, the same thing you have to do with the sample page. Go to the Pages > All Pages and delete only the Sample Page.

Then go to the trash and permanently delete the sample page from the trash.

2. Remove the default plugins

Go to the Plugins > Installed Plugins and remove the Hello Dolly plugin. If you wish, you can use the Akismet to prevent spam comments. Otherwise, you can delete it also.

3. Change the site-title, tagline, and timezone

After that, go to the General Settings and change Site Title and Tagline.

Scroll down and set the Timezone according to your region, and then click on the Save changes.

After installing WordPress, this is the most important and essential setting you have to do.

Go to the Permalink Settings and change it to Post name and then click on Save Changes.

If this is your fresh installed WordPress, ignore the following Warning.

WARNING: If you have already added some posts and that’s are ranking on search engines, then this setting can seriously impact your search engine visibility.


5. Discussion essential settings in WordPress

This setting helps you to prevent spam comments and improve your user interface.

So go to the Discussion Settings and set the nested comments to 3 levels deep, and then check on the Comment must be manually approved.

In the following image, I have selected nested level 2 but 3 is the best.

6. Media essential settings in WordPress

Now, we’ll do some media settings and these settings help you to save your hosting resources on a tiny level.

So go to the Media Settings and follow the same settings as on the following image.

If you don’t want to organize your uploaded files into month- and year-based folders, then you can uncheck the Organize my uploads.

7. Ping URL setting in WordPress

If you want to speed up the indexing of your new posts on search engines, then this Ping URL setting helps you to achieve this.

So first, copy the following urls –

Now, go to the Writing Settings > scroll down > paste the copied URLs in the Update Services Textarea > Save Changes.
